Neurology</em> showed that  senior moments could be partly due to elevated blood sugar levels as we age.  Specifically, researchers found that abnormal blood sugar levels damage something called the hippocampus, an area in the brain used for memory, learning and modulating our ability to handle stress.</p> <p class="style2">This doesn't come as a surprise to us given the many negative consequences blood sugar dysregulation has on virtually every system in our body.  Blood sugar imbalances negatively impact our hormones, cardiovascular system, our ability to handle stress, and as this study showed, our brain.<br> </p> <p class="style2">One of the most important things people can do to improve their health is to first get blood work done to assess their body's ability to manage blood sugar, and then use appropriate amounts of exercise, dietary modification and supplements to help manage it.  <br> </p> <p class="style2">Clinically, one of the best nutrients for supporting and protecting the hippocampus is something called phosphatidylserine, a phospholipid important for brain health and cognitive function.  Relatively high doses are required for therapeutic effects (i.e. class="style2">&nbsp;</p> <p class="style2"><strong>Food Sensitivities - When You Fix Them, You Fix Your Health </strong></p> <p class="style2">What if we told you that there is one test you can run that will help improve the function of virtually every system of your body, including blood sugar issues, hormonal imbalances, skin problems, fatigue, digestive issues, inflammation and stress.</p> <p class="style2">There is such a test. It is called a food sensitivity panel. Next to a standard blood chemistry screen, a food sensitivity test is the most important test someone can do. The effects of eating foods that are chemically incompatible with our body is far reaching and can have major physiological impacts that the best diet, exercise and supplement program in the world will not fix.<br> </p> <p class="style2"><strong>One Man's Food . . .</strong><br> </p> <p class="style2">Today we are bombarded with messages by the dietary experts about which foods everyone should be eating.  Things like olive oil, fruits and vegetables, seeds, nuts, eggs and lean protein are literally shoved down our throat as a way for us to maintain a lean body, low cholesterol and healthy organs.<br> </p> <p class="style2">But this is simply not the case.<br> </p> <p class="style2">Anyone can be allergic - or have a sensitivity - to <em>any</em> food.  Even olive oil.  We are all different with unique individual variations in our physiology and therefore a particular food might be health-building for one person, but devastating to another.<br> </p> <p class="style2">Eating foods you are sensitive to can have vast and far reaching negative effects on your entire body.  Everything from skin issues, to mental dysfunction, to hormonal imbalance, to joint pain, to digestive issues . . . all of these can be caused by eating foods that are not compatible with your system.</p> <p class="style2">This point cannot be stressed enough. Eating foods you are sensitive to will cause immune system imbalance, blood sugar issues, hormonal imbalance and inflammation. The only way to stop this is to stop eating those foods and the best way to identify those foods is to test for them.<br> </p> <p class="style2"><strong>Allergies vs. Sensitivities </strong><br> </p> <p class="style2">Everyone knows someone with a food <em>allergy</em> - the type of allergy that could potentially send them to the hospital if they eat it.  These are known as IgE food allergies and are fairly easy to spot because of their quick and profound reaction.  IgE food allergies occur in approximately 4 percent of the population, occur within minutes to hours of eating a particular food and are responsible for anaphylactic-type reactions. Peanuts are one such food.<br> </p> <p class="style2">Food <em>sensitivities</em> are different.  They occur in almost half of the population, can occur anywhere from 4 to 72 hours after a food is eaten (making them difficult to correlate with symptoms) and are responsible for everything from migraine headaches, to inability to lose weight, to generalized fatigue and feeling rundown all the time.   Food sensitivities are very powerful.<br> </p> <p class="style2"><strong>What To Do</strong><br> </p> <p class="style2">The simplest thing to do is an elimination diet. This means cutting out foods that most often cause sensitivities - eggs, dairy, gluten, soy, corn, nightshade vegetables, citrus - and completely remove them from  your diet for a minimum of three weeks.  At the end of three weeks you will reintroduce a particular food for one day (i.e. dairy), and then resume the same elimination diet you've been following while monitoring for any symptoms for the next three days.  Symptoms may include a stuffy nose, joint pain, headaches . . . pretty much anything.  Then after three days you will reintroduce another food and repeat this process for approximately six weeks.<br> </p> <p class="style2">The process is simple, but not necessarily easy.  In fact many people find it rather difficult.<br> </p> <p class="style2">This is why we prefer testing.<br> </p> <p class="style2">The best test we've found - the <strong>Mediator Release Test</strong> - looks at 150 different foods, including some commonly used chemicals and additives in food.  But this test doesn't just look at antibodies, rather it looks at the inflammatory markers that specific foods are causing in <em>your</em> body and result in any number of health issues.
